What made you decide to become a musician? To be honest, thinking back, I don’t think I had much choice in the matter!
I remember when I was about four years old, my older sister forcing me to sing the backing vocals to Gladys Knight and the Pips songs (and many others), whilst she sang the main vocal (Laughing)
Fortunately, I wasn’t left too traumatised as a result, I think this actually served to spur me on to develop a taste for singing.
Amera also recalls the big piano which stood in the study at home was what enticed her, at the age of 11 years, to start song writing and teaching herself to play the piano.
Amera is a professionally trained singer whose musical journey spans a number of years,
having been a vocalist in various Christian contemporary bands from the age of
19 years to the present date.
She has also engaged in various music projects with other musicians in the past which has involved some song writing and music production. This, in addition to listening to varied music genres at home as a child (Soul, Funk, Motown Rock, Folk) is what inspires her music.
I very much want my musical influences to be reflected in our Blues songs, in order to
produce a new Blues sound.
In order to achieve this I think it is most important to allow our cultural influences to shine through.
